Rockin' Alone is a CNC-milled sculpture made from cherry wood, based on a 3D scan of my mother sitting in a rocking chair. The sculpture is a single rectangular slice of that scan, capturing only part of the chair, her posture, and her hand, leaving the rest partially teleported, still loading. Projection mapping casts a shadow of the complete 3D model onto the wall, turning the missing parts into a visible absence.
The work holds an embedded performance that uses the materiality of cherry wood. Using the wood's photosensitivity, I capture the act of holding a hand; this silhouette archive of my presence disappears over time as the color of the wood comes to equilibrium, leaving a fading trace of presence and touch. The piece examines longing, memory, and the limits of technology in capturing human essence.
